After more than a few months out at sea on a private island, Steve found himself going a little stir crazy and needed to be at least where people might show up. With the Avengers disbanded and things ending as they had, he had no choice but to go off and lay low. The shield he had long carried was no longer in his possession and without it, he sure did not feel like much of a soldier. The balance of right and wrong, good and evil all weighed upon his conscience. The man he thought he was had been changing yet again, and being alone with those thoughts immersed him in his own form of punishment.

After months of preparing and gathering what was needed, Steve hiked into the deepest most remote location in the woods he could find... to his small clearing of land where he had literally chopped each last piece of wood for his own cabin. It felt good to put his strength to use once more and the fresh air here made him feel alive. For long stretches of time, he could just stop thinking. And with it of course came just the opposite, where he could not let go.

Once finished, Steve would go about once a month to gather supplies that he might need and take them back home very much unnoticed. Or at least he had hoped. His ears and other senses were keen to every sound and change in his environment. He could feel a certain sudden crispness in the air; a dampness that may mean rain. He sat on the porch, his feet bare as he saw it sweeping in. A low rumble in the distance and lightning broke the calm of the evening sky. A smile curled his lips as he thought to himself of an old friend.
